Welcome to Psychometrics

This is the field of study concerned with the theory and technique of educational and psychological measurement (Frank used Wikipedia). It is the ins and outs of measurements.

Construct

Although this field observes the relationships among abstract concepts, a lot of times the constructs are abstractions that can often not be directly observed.

Have I told you that this year has been a year? A lot of stuff going on and I don't even know the why's how's or when I am going to get through it. For example, my overachiever self signed up for all research as my workload. Not considering I am doing a replication study outside of that anyway. So I am learning; the deception, neuroscience, and eating habits of college students. While I'm whining, someone just sprained their ankle. Right as we all get a hang of something and/or feel motivated, something is thrown at us. Why? Although I can not observe and find answers for all that God has for me, I can experience. I can experience the seven-hour drive to make time for my family, the stress of also being in school, the confusion of literature reviews and big words, and even the circumstances of not being where we all "want to be".

Where are we supposed to be? If it was up to some of my younger people, they would say "When are you getting married, getting a house, having kids, a job?". Shoot, let's throw the old heads in there too. My grandpa said, "So what are you going to do after?". Getting a job was not a good enough answer. Well, as there is a time and place for everything, he can ask me that right after I pass my dissertation. I remember a time when I should have been curious about those answers. I know even more that that isn't where I am at right now. Right now I am a graduate student, continuously learning and mastering course work, connecting all the dots, balancing family and self-care, not getting everything an "I'm grown" statement should have, and a woman preparing herself for the day I am curious about where I will work. Again and again, people my age are pressured with things. Sometimes they are valid. Yet, if living in a three-bedroom is my story right now I am going to experience it. If that means I am more comfortable and saving money, hey more power to me. Just gives me more of a reason to spend the extra cash on a cruise.

All in all, we all might not be where we want to be. Who cares. As long as you are working to be where you want to be is what matters. Thirty with a luxury car is better than getting a BMW repossessed in your twenties. Like my dad said, "You riding Mink until the wheels fall off huh?". Yes sir I will. A luxury car isn't where I am at right now. I'm still on Pinterest saying my options ;)
