The message was received. In my first class Tillman (Professor) bluntly said ”This isn’t college, this is grad school”.

🤔🤨🫠

Intro Departmental Meeting

The program started off with the whole College of Education discussing the successes of last year and initiatives and changes for this upcoming year. New lpad opened on Notability, I was ‘new student ready’ to take notes. I left with an empty notepad but things were noted.

Transparency

Attending department meetings allows grad students to build transparency with the faculty. We saw what the conversations looked like and their passion to make our experience & academia at our school better.

This also allows us to gain a sense of professionalism and relationship within the program. The Professors allow us to address them by their first name. This is not the same at every program so don’t @ me after you call your Professor Tommy.

We all wanted positive change and couldn’t do it alone.

Fall Conference Meeting

This years conference was at a beautiful lake called Toledo Bend. I will let the pictures do the honors:

Me: Sipping a Truly ( Lemonade pack only) while sitting in the pool

My Mom: That don’t look like a conference

mainly for first years to get to know people outside of the academic setting - Alex

Team Building

This was an opportunity to learn each other. We played games to challenge our communication and listening skills. I learned how hard it is to communicate when there are divisions between people ( possibly titles or literal restrictions)

The games were fun, honest, required slight judgement but was a good laugh when the person knew it was true and ultimately allowed us to all see each other’s personalities. Even the discrete ones 🌶️👀.

To sum up my first week:

& I’m here for it. Even if I cry every week…BIG main character vibes anyways 🙄💁🏾

The goal is to become the woman I always needed.A magnet for wealth, health, inner peace, and abundance - Pinterest post duh

Xoxo- 1st week grad student
